Kajol Drops Major Hint On Maa Sequel, Says ‘Maa Returns’ Could Be A Reality

Kajol teases a possible sequel to Maa, her mythological horror film, and reacts to the title ‘Maa Returns’. She also denies any cameo appearances by Ajay Devgn or R. Madhavan.

Kajol Has Stated ‘Maa Returns’ Sounds Much Better, Teases Sequel Potential

During a recent interview, Kajol was asked if there was going to be a Maa sequel. True to her humorous nature, she responded:

“For sure. I hope you all love the film a lot, there will be a Maa 2. Maa 2 does not sound nice, right?”

When the interviewer suggested the title Maa Returns, Kajol chuckled and said:

“I will come to you for titles.”

While the actress created no confirmed sequel in the works, it certainly sounded playful enough to indicate that there is a possibility open if moviegoers take to the story.

No Ajay Devgn Or R. Madhavan Cameos In Maa

Another popular question was if Ajay Devgn or R. Madhavan, who are both closely tied to Kajol’s recently prior headlining cosmic former planetary blocks to her work, will make a surprise cameo. Kajol clarified that there will be none:

“No, no. I wish you gave me this suggestion before. If you would have done it before we shot, we may have shot it.”

So for those fans hoping to see a magical Devgn-Maddy surprise moment, they will have to wait it out, maybe until Maa Returns.

The recently released song Humnava also adds emotional layers to the subtle darkness within the picture.

More About Maa: A Mythological Horror With Divine Fury

Directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande, Maa depicts a mother battling a demonic curse gripping a village. Kajol becomes a Kali-like avatar to save her daughter, tapping into mythological subtexts, contrasted with psychological horror elements.

Maa also stars Indraneil Sengupta, Ronit Roy, and Jitin Gulati. It releases pan-India in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali. The film will hit cinemas on June 27, 2025, before streaming on Netflix following its theatrical window.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

With Maa, Kajol is entering unexplored genre territory—mythological horror—and making it her genre. Her expressed willingness to participate in a Maa sequel and her engagement with fans add to the intrigue for a sequel to Maa. And while Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan might not appear in cameo form, the emotionality featured in Maa and the predominance of dark visual storytelling hinted in Humnava suggest something much deeper is coming.

Regardless of a potential sequel, Maa will deliver a lasting impact.
