Kajol’s release calendar for 2025 is seeing major changes. Her film Sarzameen, which was set to arrive in January, has been delayed. The shift comes as co-producer Karan Johar restructures the launch plans for Ibrahim Ali Khan. After this change, Kajol’s first film of the year will now be Maa.
Sarzameen Moves To Late 2025 As Nadaaniyan Prioritised
As per a mid-day report, Kayoze Irani-directed Sarzameen was initially planned for a Republic Day release. However, filmmaker Karan Johar (who is producing both Sarzameen and Nadaaniyan) has decided to introduce Khan with a romantic film instead.
A source shared, “The film revolves around the sensitive topic of terrorism in Kashmir with Ibrahim essaying an intense character. Karan, who has backed both Sarzameen and Nadaaniyan, felt it would be better to launch Ibrahim as a romantic hero and lined up director Shauna Gautam’s Netflix rom-com for a summer release.”
Meanwhile, Sarzameen, which revolves around terrorism in Kashmir, will undergo additional post-production work based on Johar’s feedback before releasing later in the year.
Maa Becomes Kajol’s First Release Of 2025
Kajol was last seen in the Netflix film Do Patti and was widely praised for her role in the crime thriller.
Now, with Sarzameen moving to the end of the year, Kajol’s first big-screen appearance in 2025 will now be her psychological horror film Maa. Directed by Vishal Furia and backed by Ajay Devgn, the film is currently in post-production and is expected to release around June or July.
Kajol also has Maharagni: Queen of Queens lined up. It has been directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati.
For fans eager to see Kajol back on the big screen, Maa will now arrive first, while Sarzameen will showcase a different side of her later in the year.
