Aditya Sarpotdar, known for last month’s sleeper hit Munjya, returns with another film, Kakuda, a horror comedy that skips theatrical release for a direct digital debut. Despite its digital path, the film encountered the sharp scissors of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), necessitating some edits.
CBFC Grants U/A Certificate To Kakuda After Several Edits
The CBFC cleared Kakuda with a U/A certificate after requiring cuts, notably removing expletives like ‘harami’ and ‘c*****a’, and replacing them with more censor-friendly terms.
Another change involved substituting ‘tits’ with ‘kids’ in a dialogue referring to cows, adding an unexpected twist to the character’s hesitation on screen. Interestingly, these modifications weren’t reflected in the subtitles on Zee5, where Kakuda premiered.
Additionally, the film now opens with a disclaimer on anti-superstition, as mandated by the CBFC. These alterations led to the issuance of the censor certificate on July 28, 2022, with the film clocking in at 116 minutes, or 1 hour and 56 minutes.
Sonakshi Sinha Plays Double Role In This Horror-Comedy
Sonakshi Sinha, marking 14 years in Bollywood this September, adds another feather to her cap with Kakuda, where she portrays dual roles for the first time since her acclaimed web series Heeramandi. In Kakuda, she essays Indu and her twin sister Gomati, bringing a compelling narrative twist, especially in the film’s latter half.
Contrasting with her role in Heeramandi, where her characters never shared screen time, Kakuda presents Sonakshi in a dual role with both characters seen together in various scenes.
This release marks her return to the big screen following her marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal, an event that garnered attention and some controversy, notably in Bihar due to protests and remarks from her brother Luv Sinha on social media.
About Kakuda
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and starring Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha, and Saqib Saleem, Kakuda unfolds in a haunted village plagued by a mischievous ghost.
When Saqib Saleem’s character faces imminent death within 13 days of marriage, his determined wife (Sonakshi Sinha) seeks assistance from a ghostbuster (Riteish Deshmukh), setting the stage for a mix of spine-chilling encounters and comedic moments.
