What began as a provocative film promotion has now turned into a headline-grabbing courtroom face-off. The controversy around Kala Hiran: The Battle For Legacy has entered a sharper phase, with producer Amit Jani moving the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court ordered the teaser and related promotional material to be taken down in Salman Khan’s personality rights case.
At the heart of the dispute is a much bigger question for the industry. In an era when teasers are designed to ignite instant online conversation, this case has brought Bollywood’s marketing playbook under scrutiny, especially when a star’s public identity becomes central to a campaign’s attention-grabbing value.
His plea before the High Court said that the teaser of the proposed film is set entirely within a courtroom, depicting, in a dramatised form, the trial of the actor described as ‘Superstar’ for the alleged killing of a blackbuck, and showcases the examination of witnesses, forensic conclusions, as well as threats and inducements to witnesses.
After Salman’s claims, producer Amit Jani had received several death threats, including some from Pakistani terrorists as well. He wrote on X, “I am receiving calls and messages late at night from Shahzad Bhatti, the declared Pakistani terrorist, threatening to kill me in a drone and grenade attack while taking Salman Khan’s side. I have informed the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajasthan Police, and CRPF officials. Salman Khan is fighting on two fronts.”
Supreme Court Challenge After Delhi Hc Takedown Order
Amit Jani has challenged the Delhi High Court’s July 27, 2026 interim order before the Supreme Court after the lower court directed the immediate removal of the teaser and connected publicity content for Kala Hiran: The Battle For Legacy. The High Court held, at a prima facie stage, that the material violated Salman Khan’s personality rights and caused reputational damage.
The July 27 proceedings produced one of the sharpest observations in the matter. As recorded in court coverage, Justice Jyoti Singh said, “Reputation once lost is lost.” That line has come to define the court’s concern that digital circulation of such content can inflict lasting damage far beyond a routine promotional dispute.
The written order also underlined the speed and permanence of online harm, stating, “Use of social media to disseminate content, which violates personality rights or harms the reputation of the personality, exacerbates the mischief, given the speed, reach and permanence of the digital publications and has the potential to cause immediate and irreparable harm to the goodwill of the affected party, which one builds over years.” The court further directed that the links be taken down within 24 hours, failing which platforms including X and YouTube could be ordered to remove the content.
That judicial warning lands at a particularly revealing moment for Hindi cinema, where first-look assets often function as the film’s loudest sales pitch. In that context, the Kala Hiran matter has moved beyond a single disputed teaser and into a larger industry reckoning over how aggressively real-life celebrity associations can be used to fuel publicity.
When Stardom, Persona And Promotion Collide
For Salman Khan, the legal fight arrives while his screen image continues to hold strong commercial value. His most recent confirmed release was Sikandar, which opened in India on March 30, 2025. That continuing star power is exactly why the Kala Hiran dispute carries weight beyond one contested campaign, because it places celebrity branding, legal boundaries, and promotional storytelling in the same frame.
The Supreme Court’s examination of the Delhi High Court order now places fresh focus on how Bollywood sells spectacle before a film even reaches audiences. For an industry powered by viral teasers, instant reactions, and personality-driven buzz, this battle sets a clear marker for where publicity ends and personality rights begin.
