Nag Ashwin‘s Kalki 2898 AD is eagerly awaited by both the industry and fans, with its release set for Thursday, June 27. This highly anticipated film will be available in multiple languages and formats, including 2D, 3D, and IMAX.
However, it’s surprising to know that the makers have decided to pause the advance booking for the film’s IMAX version.
Kalki 2898 Ad Makers Asked Exhibitors To Halt IMAX Bookings
A multiplex official shared with Bollywood Hungama, “On the morning of Monday, June 24, we received information that the makers and distributor of Kalki 2898 AD have asked exhibitors to hold off on IMAX bookings. Accordingly, we stopped sales immediately. For IMAX screens that had not yet started booking, they were told not to commence ticket sales.”
Another source added, “Some multiplexes were also directed that Kalki 2898 AD might not release in the IMAX version, sparking speculation that the IMAX release could be cancelled. It’s been over six hours, and we hope the makers provide clarity soon as there’s a significant demand for this film’s IMAX version. The audience needs to know what’s happening.”
The film features a stellar cast, including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, the film’s advance booking opened recently and has received an enthusiastic response. This futuristic entertainer will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Kalki Promotions & More About Advance Bookings
The promotional efforts for Prabhas starrer have been extensive. Last month, in an unprecedented move, the makers released an animated prelude, B&B: Bujji And Bhairava, on Amazon Prime Video. This thirty-minute series provided viewers with a glimpse into the world of Kalki 2898 AD, building anticipation for the film.
For those unfamiliar, advanced bookings for Kalki 2898 AD began in North India today following high demand from southern regions, which even caused the website to crash.
Early reports indicated phenomenal advance bookings in cities like Hyderabad, hinting at packed cinema halls and potentially sold-out early morning shows. With a budget of Rs 600 crore, the filmmakers are banking on the film to perform exceptionally well commercially.
