Mumbai has become Kalyani Priyadarshan’s home base, and Pralay is the reason why. As Jai Mehta’s zombie thriller gets ready for its next shoot leg, the actor has planted herself in the city, trading familiar ground in Chennai and Kochi for a stretch of full focus on her Hindi film debut opposite Ranveer Singh.
Kalyani Bases Herself In Mumbai For Pralay
Kalyani has shifted into a Juhu apartment for the duration of Pralay, giving her the kind of continuity a physically demanding film requires. Staying in Mumbai through the schedule allows her to remain closely tied to the production as the thriller moves deeper into its shoot.
A source said, “Kalyani will be living in Mumbai till Pralay is complete. The producers set up a spacious apartment for her in Juhu so that she can focus on the film.”
The move also reflects the scale of the project. Directed by Jai Mehta, Pralay pairs Kalyani with Ranveer Singh in a zombie thriller that marks her entry into Hindi cinema. It is a striking shift for an actor who has built her presence in the South while steadily drawing attention for her screen choices.
Intense Prep Ahead Of The Next Shoot Leg
The preparation for Pralay has been extensive. Kalyani began action training in May, before the film went on floors in July. She and Ranveer Singh also took part in readings, workshops, and rehearsals as the team worked on the film’s physical and dramatic texture before the cameras rolled.
With the first schedule complete, Pralay is set to resume filming in October and continue through December. Through the break, Kalyani has stayed with the process, continuing her action prep and following a specialised diet for the leaner look the role demands.
A source said, “Kalyani and Ranveer did multiple readings, workshops, and rehearsals together. After completing the first schedule, Ranveer went on his paternity leave. The unit will resume shooting in October, working till December. Through these months, Kalyani has been training in action and following a special diet as she needs to sport a lithe frame.”
A Bollywood Push Alongside South Cinema
Her Mumbai stay is not only about one film. The actor is also using this period to spend more time in the Hindi film space while continuing her work in the South, making the city an important base at this stage of her career.
A source added, “She has been meeting top directors in Mumbai as she wants to do both Hindi and South movies.”
For Kalyani, Pralay arrives as both a major acting challenge and a timely launch into Bollywood, placing her in the middle of a new phase without taking her away from the industries that shaped her.
Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Kalyani’s recent work has kept her visible across Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Her released titles include the Malayalam direct to OTT comedy drama Bro Daddy in 2022, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, and the Malayalam period drama Varshangalkku Shesham in 2024. She was also seen in the Malayalam fantasy action film Lokah Chapter One: Chandra in 2025.
Looking ahead, Genie remains one of her notable unreleased Tamil projects. With Pralay now adding a Hindi launch to that mix, Kalyani is entering a particularly busy and closely watched stretch in her film career.
