Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has sparked fresh controversy with a social media post featuring a morphed image of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Ranaut, a BJP MP from Mandi, is now facing a Rs 40 crore libel case for sharing the doctored photo of Gandhi. The image depicted Gandhi with a skull cap, a cross, and a turmeric and vermillion tilak, which has led to significant backlash.
Kangana Ranaut’s Controversial Post Criticising Rahul Gandhi
The drama began when Kangana Ranaut shared the altered image on her social media accounts. The post was intended as a critique of Gandhi’s recent comments on caste census discussions in Parliament. Alongside the edited photo, Ranaut wrote, “Jaati jivi jise bina jaati pooche jaati ganana karani hai,” which translates to, “One who wishes to conduct a caste census without asking anyone’s caste.”
The post was met with immediate condemnation from many social media users, who labelled it as inflammatory and distasteful. The criticism has now escalated to legal action.
Actress Slapped With Legal Charges, Asked To Pay Rs 40 Cr Compensation
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Narendra Mishra has filed a Rs 40 crore defamation case against Ranaut in response to the controversial post. Mishra argued that editing and distributing someone’s image without their consent is illegal under the Information Technology Act. He stated, “This act tarnishes the image of Rahul Gandhi and defames him publicly.”

This is not the first time Kangana Ranaut has been in the spotlight for her comments about Rahul Gandhi. Before this incident, she had stirred controversy by suggesting Gandhi should undergo a drug test. Reacting to his speech on the Union Budget 2024, Ranaut claimed, “Rahul Gandhi has no dignity, and yesterday he was saying that we are Shivji’s baraat and this is a Chakravyuh.”
For the unversed, Kangana Ranaut is gearing up for the release of her long-awaited film Emergency. Recently, there were reports of the actress planning to sell her Mumbai Bungalow. Some speculated that it was to facilitate the release of her film.
