Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has reacted to the Bombay High Court’s decision about her upcoming film Emergency. The film, which focuses on a pivotal period in India’s history, has faced controversy, leading to delays in its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

On Wednesday, Kangana expressed her views on X (formerly Twitter). She shared a post by Live Law, stating, “High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #emergency.” This comment highlights her frustration with how the CBFC has handled the film’s certification.

About The Controversy That Has Delayed Film’s Release
The controversy surrounding the Emergency began when Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, raised concerns.
They accused the film of distorting historical facts and misrepresenting their community. Due to these objections, the Madhya Pradesh High Court stepped in, instructing the CBFC to consider these issues before certifying the film.
HC Orders CBFC To Certify The Film By September 18
Initially set to release on September 6, Emergency has now been delayed by two weeks. The Bombay High Court, during a petition hearing from the film’s producer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises, directed the CBFC to certify the film by September 18. Zee Entertainment had approached the court, seeking an order to push the CBFC to issue the necessary certificate.
During the proceedings, Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla acknowledged that the certification was prepared but not issued. The CBFC claimed that the certificate hadn’t been signed by the chairperson, which was why it wasn’t issued. However, the court rejected this explanation, stating that the certificate should have been issued online to the film’s makers.
Despite agreeing with the producer’s stance, the Bombay High Court could not grant immediate relief due to an existing order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The court mentioned that if it weren’t for the Madhya Pradesh HC’s directive, it would have ordered the CBFC to issue the certificate immediately.
