Kangana has previously praised the film on her Instagram stories, calling it one of the “best films of her career.”
While Thalaivii received positive reviews from critics, it suffered loss since theatres in Mumbai and Kerala are still closed, and footfalls in other parts of the country are still in short numbers. PVR Cinemas and INOX Leisure Ltd, both multiplex chains, declined to show the Hindi version of the film because the timeframe for its Netflix premiere was too short.

The movie was supposed to be out in April, however it was postponed due to the second Covid-19 outbreak in India. Many people will be able to see Thalaivii for the first time now that it is available on Netflix.
