Filmmaker Karan Johar opened up about the pivotal role played by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and YRF’s Aditya Chopra in shaping his career. Speaking at the All India Management Association’s ninth National Leadership Conclave, Johar expressed profound gratitude towards the two icons, labelling them as two pillars of his journey in the film industry.
Two pillars, two reasons why I sit here today,” Johar professed, acknowledging the profound impact of Khan and Chopra on his professional trajectory. “They acknowledged something about me that I didn’t see in myself. I will always be grateful to them for that. Rest all was my huge passion,” he added.
Reflecting on his early days, Johar reminisced about the encounters that led to his association with Khan and Chopra. “It was part of my destiny to meet Shah Rukh and Aditya,” he shared.
Delving into the depths of his journey, Johar revealed a moment of vulnerability preceding his directorial debut with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. “I fainted a day before directing Amitabh Bachchan,” he disclosed, shedding light on the challenges encountered during his nascent years in the industry.

Karan Johar feels there’s a pivotal role played by Khan and Chopra in his success. “My first step was because two people who were not related to me by blood or family believed in me strongly.”
Grateful for their faith, Johar attributed his success to a combination of destiny and diligent effort. “It has a lot to do with destiny, but nothing happens without hard work,” he affirmed.

Johar received the prestigious Director of the Year award for his outstanding contribution to the film industry with his 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Donning a sleek formal attire comprising a black jacket and trouser, paired with a crisp white shirt and tie, Johar commanded attention as he stood on the stage. Alongside India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, he graciously accepted his accolade at the illustrious event.
