In an age when most films are barely able to make it to their second weekend, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh is bucking every trend as it continues its run with excellent box office action.
Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar took to his Instagram stories on June 1, sharing a screenshot from the ticket booking site highlighting how the film hit the 7th weekend.
“7th weekend! Kesari coloured shows for #KesariChapter2! The power of content and storytelling!”
— said Johar, quite emotional about the film’s success.
The screenshot shared by Karan showed full houses in Mumbai, amongst others such as the PVR Icon Oberoi Mall, INOX R-City Ghatkopar, Phoenix Palladium, and Metro INOX Marine Lines. The locations were still showing Kesari Chapter 2 in premium formats such as Playhouse, Kotak Insignia, and Luxe, as there was still plenty of demand two weeks after the release.
Content Over Hype: How Kesari Chapter 2 Is Winning Audiences Week After Week
Directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dharma Productions in association with Cape of Good Films, Kesari Chapter 2 is telling the untold story about the horrific events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
The film appeals to all demographics and, especially evoking sentiments in North India, continues to have dealer levels of footfall in multiplexes and single screens as well.
With ₹93 crore net in India and ₹145 crore gross worldwide, the film has already passed several key commercial benchmarks. Boosted by strong word-of-mouth and critical acclaim.
A Good Sign for Patriotic Storytelling In Indian Cinema
The continuing triumph of Kesari Chapter 2 also indicates audiences want to see rooted stories, historical stories coming through.
Following the precedent set by The Kashmir Files and Sam Bahadur, this film confirmed again that powerful storytelling can exceed big-budget spectacle when handled with authenticity and scale.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict
7 weekends and counting — Kesari Chapter 2 is not just a film but a movement.
In an era where star-driven releases neither capture consistent interest nor sustain explosive box office growth after week 1, this patriotic drama has packed houses that also display massive enthusiasm.
Karan Johar‘s public acknowledgement of the film’s success is therefore not only a patronising gesture of support but also a rallying call for creative producers to invest in stories that matter.
This is not just about box office; it is about significant storytelling getting publicity for the right reasons, indicating purpose-based storytelling beating hype saturation.
And yes, content is STILL king.
