“Mahabharat Might Be My Last Film”: Aamir Khan Hints At Career Culmination After His Dream Project

Aamir Khan revealed that his long-cherished dream project Mahabharat might be his final film, citing its emotional and creative magnitude as the reason. The project will begin post the release of Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan Speaks on Potentially Closing Chapter of His Career

Aamir Khan is set to return with the new movie Sitaare Zameen Par after an important pause to regroup following Laal Singh Chaddha. In a conversation with Raj Shamani, Aamir Khan made a surprising statement, though it certainly was an emotional one. He said that Mahabharat, the project he has always wanted to make, may be the last film he ever makes.

“It’s my dream to make Mahabharat… Once I’ve done it, I could find that I don’t have a reason to continue,” Aamir said.

He described Mahabharat as “layered, emotional, vast in scale, and full of grandeur” and said that it was the one project that could capture everything human and divine. He said it is an Everest of storytelling that, once he climbs it, could signify the end of his acting and filmmaking career.

“Mahabharat Will Be Multiple Films, Maybe Even Multiple Directors”

Aamir has not been shy in past interviews to share his intrigue for the Indian epic. In a viral conversation, Aamir shared how he conceptualises the project.

“You can’t tell Mahabharat in one movie. We are thinking multiple movies. Maybe similar to The Lord of the Rings, where we shot them all at once.”

It’s clear he suggested that because of the elaborate timeline and complexity of the story, it’s likely that multiple directors might come on board to help make sure the story gets the respect it deserves — narratively and logistically.

“Maybe I’ll Go Out After That” — A Personal Note

Aamir interjected a somewhat serious note explaining that while he hopes to keep working till his last gasp, like the late A.K. Hangal, he might ultimately be able to walk away from the process due to the depth of emotional and spiritual curves of Mahabharat.

“Maybe after doing Mahabharat, I feel like I don’t want to do anything after that. Shayad. I Don’t Know.”

Sitaare Zameen Par First On-Screen

Before he wrestles with the Mahabharata, Aamir Khan is back in theaters with the well-timed Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his breakout and eponymous 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna. The film features Aamir as a basketball coach leading a team of underdog kids and also stars Genelia D’Souza and a dynamic cast of new faces. The film is set to arrive in theaters on June 20, 2025.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

Aamir Khan’s announcement of Mahabharat as his possible last film has been met with both shock and admiration. In an industry setup on numbers and largely concerned with sales, here is a megastar that speaks of legacy, meaning, and artistic satisfaction.

If Mahabharat does turn out to be his last film, it will be a cultural phenomenon of amazing proportions and one that could potentially change the game of epic filmmaking in India — something we wouldn’t know how to interpret until the final edit.

But in the meantime, Sitaare Zameen Par can set the stage for what could be the most anticipated final act in Bollywood history.
