Karan Johar Joins Prestigious Conversation Series

Karan Johar is set to represent Indian cinema at the Marrakech International Film Festival, joining the festival’s prestigious Conversation series. This honour is reserved for some of the most influential voices in global filmmaking, and this year’s lineup places Karan in truly rare company. The series features legendary names like Bong Joon Ho, Guillermo del Toro, Andrew Dominik, Laurence Fishburne, and Jodie Foster.

The Conversation series at Marrakech is known for bringing together visionary filmmakers from around the world to discuss their craft, creative processes, and the future of cinema. Homebound Gets Gala Screening Recognition

Adding to this significant moment, Homebound has been selected for a gala screening at the Marrakech International Film Festival. The film, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Dharma Productions, is India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. This gala screening represents strong acknowledgement of the filmmaker’s evolving global footprint and the film’s growing international acclaim.

Homebound has been creating waves on the international festival circuit. The film premiered at Cannes 2025 in the Un Certain Regard section, where it reportedly received a nine minute standing ovation. It has since been screened at prestigious festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Recently, executive producer Martin Scorsese hosted a special screening in New York, which Karan described as a surreal experience.

The Global Journey Of Homebound Continues

The film follows two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers, believing the job will earn them the respect they have always longed for. However, as they move closer to achieving their goal, growing pressure and personal struggles begin to test their bond. The story, written and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles.

Karan’s participation in the Conversation series and the gala screening of Homebound at Marrakech highlight how Indian cinema is gaining recognition on global platforms.
