Kareena Kapoor Khan‘s latest release, The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta, has been making waves since its debut earlier this week. The mystery thriller has captivated audiences, and now, Mehta has teased exciting news about the film’s future.
During a chat with mid-day, the director hinted that a prequel might be in the works. Read on to know what he said!
Hansal Mehta Has A Story In His Mind For The Buckingham Murders Prequel
When asked about the potential for a sequel to The Buckingham Murders, Mehta revealed, “The reports of TBM are encouraging. So, maybe we can come together again. I already have a prequel in mind for Jasmeet. It’s an origin story of how she became who she is today.”
It means that fans could soon learn more about the backstory of Jasmeet Bhamra, the character portrayed by Kapoor.
On Possibilities Of Reuniting With Kareena Kapoor & Ektaa Kapoor For The Prequel
Mehta also mentioned the possibility of reuniting with Kareena Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor for this new project. “Of course. They own the IP,” he said. The director expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the actress-producer duo once again, calling the experience of working on The Buckingham Murders ‘deeply satisfying’.
Addressing the process of bringing Kareena Kapoor on board, Mehta shared that it was Ektaa who introduced him to the actress. Kapoor was instantly interested once she read the film’s treatment. Mehta described working with Kapoor as a “delight,” praising her as an “instinctive actor” who doesn’t take her talent “too seriously.” He added that her light touch and sensitivity brought depth to the complex role.
Why The Buckingham Murders Has Been Made In Hinglish?
The film, set in the UK, takes a unique approach by using Hinglish, a choice that Mehta defended as a commitment to authenticity. “I was clear that if the story is set there, it has to be truthful to its world,” he said. Mehta wanted to avoid the typical scenario of Hindi films set abroad where characters speak Hindi, which he felt was unrealistic.
The Buckingham Murders follows Jasmeet Bhamra (Kareena Kapoor), who moves to a new town to escape the trauma of losing her son. She becomes involved in a chilling case of a missing boy, navigating through the complexities of the investigation.
Directed by Hansal Mehta and featuring a strong cast including Allen Keith, Ash Tandon, and Ranveer Brar, the film is written by Aseem Arora, Kashyap Kapoor, and Raghav Raj Kakker. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, TBM Films, Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, The Buckingham Murders is currently showing in theatres.
