Kartik Aaryan is finally ready to take Captain India from announcement to the sets. The ambitious action drama, inspired by one of India’s high-stakes evacuation missions, is scheduled to begin filming in London on September 1, with the start-to-finish leg expected to run through October. The project also marks a major directorial return for Shimit Amin, the filmmaker behind Chak De! India, adding a strong creative edge to a film that has been on industry watchlists for a while.
Captain India Moves Into Production
The latest development gives Captain India its clearest production milestone yet. The film is backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Baweja Studios, with Dopamine Studios also attached, while S B Films is handling production. Shimit Amin is directing the feature, and the writing credits go to Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava.
The film’s premise has remained one of its biggest draws. Captain India is built around a rescue mission mounted in a war-torn country, with Kartik playing a pilot at the center of the operation. Industry databases currently list the film as a 2027 release under Amin’s direction, with Kartik Aaryan leading the cast. The release is locked for August 13, 2027, positioning it for the Independence Day weekend box office corridor.
A True-Event Drama With Scale
What makes Captain India particularly interesting is the blend of patriotic scale and emotional drama. The film is not being mounted as a conventional flag-waving spectacle alone. Its core is rooted in courage under pressure, with the story revolving around an evacuation operation that demanded precision, nerve and leadership.
There is also added curiosity around the ensemble, with more casting details still awaited. For now, the film’s strongest confirmed draw remains the Kartik Aaryan and Shimit Amin combination. Amin has stayed away from feature directing for years, so Captain India immediately carries the weight of a comeback project as well.
Kartik Aaryan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Kartik heads into Captain India after a significant phase in his career. In 2024, he starred in Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion, a biographical sports drama that earned him strong critical acclaim and later won him the National Award for Best Actor. He followed that with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in 2024, which emerged as a major commercial success and became one of the biggest Hindi hits of the year.
His confirmed upcoming slate also includes Naagzilla and untitled romantic drama opposite Seeeleela directed by Anurag Basu. He also finished shooting for another sports drama directed by Kabir Khan.
His last release was Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, last year in December. With Captain India now moving into production and already dated for August 13, 2027, Kartik’s lineup suggests a clear attempt to balance commercial entertainers with more physically and emotionally demanding parts.
If all goes to plan, Captain India could become one of the early major Hindi film production stories of the season, especially with cameras rolling in London from September 1 and a prime long-weekend release already in place.
