Khalnayak Returns: Jackie Shroff Joins Sanjay Dutt Sequel After 33 Years, Confirms Talks With Makers

The Khal Nayak universe is getting a familiar dose of swagger. Thirty-three years after Jackie Shroff played police officer Ram opposite Sanjay Dutt’s unforgettable Ballu Balram, the actor has confirmed that he is part of Khalnayak Returns. For fans of Subhash Ghai’s 1993 crime drama, the update is more than nostalgia. It signals the return of a key face from one of Bollywood’s most talked-about big-screen rivalries.

Jackie’s confirmation comes after Sanjay Dutt announced the sequel in April 2026, reviving a title that has stayed alive in pop culture through its music, performances and anti-hero energy.

Jackie Shroff Confirms Khalnayak Returns

Speaking in a recent interview, Jackie Shroff reacted to the sequel with clear excitement and said, “Excellent! I’m waiting for it.”

When asked if he would be part of the film, the actor replied, “100%. Commissioner has to be there, right? Commissioner toh hoga na (There must be a Commissioner, right?).”

Jackie also opened up about reuniting with Sanjay Dutt, keeping the emotion characteristically direct. “It’s nice to be with friends. Mera jaan hai Sanju Baba (he is my life),” Jackie said.

He further confirmed that conversations have already taken place with the people steering the sequel. “Yes, I’ve spoken to Subhash ji, the producer, and Sanju Baba,” he added.

What We Know About Khalnayak Returns

Khalnayak Returns follows Subhash Ghai’s Khal Nayak, which released in 1993 and starred Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Rakhee Gulzar. The original film revolved around Ballu Balram, a criminal on the run, and the police pursuit that brought Ram and Ganga into his orbit.

Sanjay Dutt’s Three Dimension Motion Pictures and Aksha Kamboj’s Aspect Entertainment have obtained the sequel rights from Subhash Ghai and Mukta Arts. Sanjay has also underlined Ghai’s importance to the franchise, saying, “The journey of Khalnayak has been long, and without Subhash ji, it wouldn’t have been possible. He is a legend and a man of entertainment. He will be part of this Khalnayak.”

With Sanjay returning to the world of Ballu and Jackie confirming his participation, the sequel now has a direct bridge to the original film’s core dramatic conflict.
