Kiara Advani is meeting the Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups backlash head-on. As criticism around the film’s female characters and promotional imagery gains traction, the actor has responded by putting the focus firmly on Nadia, the woman she plays in the Yash-led gangster drama, and on why the part has become the most creatively fulfilling role of her career.
Speaking about the Geetu Mohandas directorial, Kiara said the film clicked for her the moment she heard the narration. “When I finally heard the narration, I was mesmerised by how well fleshed out this character was,” she said. That immediate connection came from Nadia, the part she plays in the film, and the emotional density the role demanded.
Describing Nadia, Kiara said, “From strength to vulnerability, madness to derangement, sensitivity to detachment.” She also explained why the role arrived at exactly the right time in her career. “I felt I had reached a place in my career where I was confident enough to take on such a character,” she said, adding that the part offered her “all the meat an actor longs for.”
Kiara Opens Up About Building Nadia In Toxic
Kiara’s preparation for Nadia was rooted in character psychology before performance flourishes. “I spend a lot of time asking questions about their emotional world, their relationships, fears and motivations,” she explained. “Then comes the physical aspect. Body language, texture of their voice, costume, and how they occupy space.”
She added, “The audience sees the final performance, but the work happens quietly long before the shoot.” Looking back at the process, Kiara said, “It was all about building a character and discovering her from the inside out.”
Her remarks land at a time when Toxic is facing criticism over the way its women have been presented in promotional material. Kiara, however, made a point to highlight the strength of the film’s ensemble. “Every woman brought her own energy and individuality to the film,” she said. “I think audiences will enjoy seeing such distinct female characters share the same cinematic universe.” She also described the atmosphere on set as “incredibly refreshing.”
That response also positions Toxic as more than a star-driven spectacle in Kiara’s filmography. The role signals a deeper shift in her screen choices, one that moves beyond conventional glamour parts and leans into characters with emotional instability, contradiction and dramatic heft. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is scheduled to release on August 26, 2026 in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned across major Indian languages.
