The latest episode of Koffee with Karan 8 was a treat for the fans of Bollywood’s two queens – Rani Mukerji and Kajol. The two stars, who have given us memorable films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, graced the couch of Karan Johar and shared some interesting anecdotes from their past and present.
Rani Mukerji taught steps of Koi Mil Gaya to Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
One of the highlights of the show was when Karan revealed that Rani was the one who taught the steps of the song Koi Mil Gaya from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to SRK and Kajol.
He said, “Those were the days that none of us rehearsed right for the song and dance moves? There was no such thing as a rehearsal hall, there was one and I think Rani was the only one, she was new and young, she went and rehearsed all the steps.”
He recalled a moment while shooting the Koi Mil Gaya song when Farah Khan was directing a wide shot. He said, “Now we are taking this top wide shot with Farah Khan in command, in control and it was the signature step of Koi Mil Gaya. Suddenly, cut happened and Kajol looked at Rani that time and said “What are you doing?, something wrong you are doing” Shah Rukh Khan also said, “Kuch galat ho raha hai”. Loudly, barring from afar, Farah said, “She is the only one who is doing it right, you all are doing rubbish” Then, immediately both SRK and Kajol went to Rani who had become the choreographer teaching them the step. It was hilarious.”
Karan Johar reveals he had to lie to attend Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji’s wedding
Karan Johar revealed that he had to lie to his mom and ditch the release of his film 2 States, featuring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, in April 2014. He said that he had to make up an excuse to go to Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra’s secret wedding. He added, “But everyone was like ‘On release weekend, why are you going to Manchester?’ I was like, ‘I have to go, I have to go.’”
Karan also recalled the words of Aditya Chopra during his wedding with Rani Mukerji: ”‘Meri shaadi ho rahi hai, there are 18 people attending. If word gets out of this wedding, it will be you. The only person who will open his mouth is you, if I see there is a mention of this wedding in any publication at that time newspapers were still dominating.’” Karan said that he felt very nervous and excited at the same time.
Rani reveals she didn’t talk much to Kajol in 2000s
Another revelation that Rani made was that she and Kajol did not talk much in the 2000s, despite being cousins. In the rapid fire segment, here’s what he asked Rani Mukerji. Karan Johar asked, “Aishwarya or Kajol, who did you exchange lesser words with in the 2000s” Rani Mukerji says, “Kajol Didi”
The episode was full of fun, laughter and nostalgia, as the three stars reminisced about their films, friendship and bond. They also played the rapid fire round.
