Since the big releases are apparently not performing well in theatres, many makers are switching to Digital. One among them is Govinda Naam Mera, an upcoming film, helmed by Shashank Khaitan starring Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, Aparshakti Khurrana, Varun Dhawan, Bhumi Pednekar, Veena Nair. Star Network procured the satellite and digital rights for Rs. 62 crores.
Another untitled movie of Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan has been sold to Netflix for Rs 70 crores. It is said to be directed by Laxman Utekar. “Theatrical medium isn’t fairing as well as expected for relatively smaller films and hence it’s just a business move to premiere on the OTT platform. Dinesh Vijan has given some of the biggest hits on OTT and hence, it wasn’t difficult for him to get a good deal for the Laxman Utekar directorial,” source said.
“The revenue from the satellite will be over and above this sum of Rs. 70 crores. Laxman Utekar’s last film, MiMi had done wonders for Netflix and even this one is appreciated by those who have seen it. It’s the power of director, content, and producer credibility that has resulted in the film fetching this humongous deal. Dinesh has respected the OTT space by supplying credible content through the lockdown too,” the source added.
It has to be noted that Sara’s Atrangi Re was also direct to digital release. Shahshank Khaitan directed Govinda Naam Mera starring Vicky Kaushal was also sold to ott.
The market is astonished to see Laxman’s movie getting more money for digital rights in comparison to Shashank’s, realising content’s superiority. The Maddock Production’s untitled movie will be released early next year.
