The director has resumed filming crucial war portions for the Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal starrer after reviewing the material in the edit and deciding that key battle stretches needed to be mounted with greater force.
That decision has pushed one of Hindi cinema’s biggest in-production titles back into focus. For a filmmaker whose storytelling depends as much on emotional precision as visual grandeur, the return to set is less a detour and more a final act of control over the film’s scale.
Why Bhansali Returned To Set
The fresh schedule is focused on battle scenes that are central to the film’s emotional arc and spectacle. Bhansali has chosen to shoot additional portions at Welcome Maidaan in Goregaon over about a week, with the intent of strengthening sequences that did not fully satisfy him in the edit.
This is not a restart of the film or a change in the larger narrative design. It is a targeted enhancement of war material that Bhansali considers vital to how Love and War lands on screen. The move is consistent with the director’s long-standing reputation for revisiting detail until rhythm, mood, and visual intensity align exactly with his vision.
War Shoot Resumes In Goregaon
The film had earlier shot extensively at Royal Palms in Goregaon during its final schedule. Bhansali is now personally overseeing the additional war shoot while simultaneously continuing with the edit, keeping the production in a refinement phase rather than a full-scale active schedule.
There was also a plan to film an additional song for Love and War, but that has now been deferred indefinitely. For now, the director’s attention is firmly on the battle portions that anchor the film’s dramatic scale.

Love and War is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in the lead. The film completed its principal shoot earlier, and the current schedule is for additional portions, specifically designed to sharpen the war sequences during post-production. The project is currently dated for a 2027 release.
The makers have kept the plot tightly under wraps, but the renewed focus on battle choreography and scale makes it clear that Bhansali is building the film around both intimacy and spectacle, a combination that has defined some of his most ambitious cinema.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
The return to Love and War matters even more because it arrives at a packed phase for both its leads. Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Animal in 2023, a major commercial success that reset his box office standing, and he now heads into another large-format theatrical run with Ramayana: Part 1, scheduled for Diwali 2026, before Love and War follows in 2027.
For Alia Bhatt, the film extends a high-stakes big-screen stretch after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Netflix’s Heart of Stone, both released in 2023. Her last release was Alpha, which Yash Raj Films released on July 3, 2026, making Love and War another marquee title in a line-up that keeps her firmly at the centre of event cinema.
