In 2010, Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD) took audiences on a voyeuristic journey into the intricacies of love captured through the lens of cameras. Now, a decade later, the highly anticipated sequel, Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2, is set to explore the complexities of love in the digital age.
As the release of LSD 2 approaches, the makers have surprised fans with intriguing posters and captivating songs, building anticipation for the cinematic experience. Director Dibakar Banerjee, the creative force behind both installments, has emphasised the distinctiveness between the two films.
Dibakar Banerjee Explains How LSD 2 Is Different From LSD 1
Banerjee elucidated on the evolution from LSD 1 to LSD 2, stating, “I think the main difference between LSD 1 and LSD 2 is that in LSD 1, the camera was observing without your knowledge, while in LSD 2, we are aware that there is a camera at all times. The camera is never off. So it’s the complete opposite of LSD 1. It’s about our many ‘selves’; there is not just one ‘I’ now, there are many ‘I’s. There’s the Instagram ‘I’, Twitter ‘I’, and various other social media ‘I’s. So, there are 4 or 5 versions of different identities. LSD 2 explores that concept, whereas LSD 1 focuses on singular identities. None of the protagonists in LSD 2 have just one identity. They all possess multiple identities, versions, avatars, and presences throughout their lives. Thus, it’s markedly different from LSD 1.”
In a recent interview with ANI, Banerjee credited Ektaa Kapoor for the inception of LSD 2, recognising the societal shifts that warranted a sequel. The film delves into the intersection of virtual and real-life relationships, navigating the intricacies of modern romance in the age of the internet.
Banerjee’s exploration of this paradigm shift underscores his commitment to dissecting taboo subjects in society. He remarked, “Films serve as a mirror to society, often revealing the contradictions between our public and private selves.”
