Amar Kaushik is lining up his next big leap after his crowd-pleasing franchise successes, and this time, he is stepping into a full-blown mythological arena. As of March 12, 2026, the director is prepping Mahavatar, an effects-heavy epic that will feature Vicky Kaushal as Lord Parashuram, one of the most formidable warrior-sages in Hindu mythology.
The biggest heat point right now is scheduling. With Kaushal currently committed to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, the actor’s calendar is being reshuffled to make room for Kaushik’s demanding shoot plan, which is expected to involve a large visual canvas and extensive VFX requirements.
Mahavatar Aims To Go On Floors In July, Pre-Production To Wrap By June
The latest industry update is that Mahavatar is targeting a July start for principal photography, with pre-production planned to be completed by June. The film is being mounted as a large-scale mythological project, and the preparation phase is expected to be intensive given the VFX load and the physical and performance demands of playing Parashuram.
Kaushal, meanwhile, is expected to wrap his portions for Love & War at a faster pace to accommodate Mahavatar’s shoot plan. However, Love & War has already been in production for a while and has faced shifting timelines in the past, which makes date-locking for back-to-back large productions a tricky puzzle.
Where Mahavatar Stands As A Film Right Now
Mahavatar is being developed as a mythological feature with Amar Kaushik directing and Vicky Kaushal headlining as Parashuram. While more casting details and the production banner have not been formally rolled out with a full credit sheet in a single official announcement, the project’s current positioning is clear: it is designed as a VFX-intensive theatrical spectacle anchored by Kaushal in a transformative central role.
Given the scale implied, the July start is a significant milestone because it signals that the film is moving from announcement buzz into a tightly planned production workflow.
Vicky Kaushal’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Kaushal’s strongest recent run at the box office came with Chhaava (2025), where his performance drew widespread attention and the film emerged as one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. Before that, he appeared in Bad Newz (2024), Dunki (2023), and the biographical war drama Sam Bahadur (2023).
On the upcoming front, Kaushal is currently filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The film has an officially announced theatrical release date of August 14, 2026. If Mahavatar begins shooting in July as planned, it will place Kaushal in a particularly intense stretch of back-to-back large-scale productions in 2026.
