Mahavatar Postponed To Mid-2026: Amar Kaushik Says Vicky Kaushal Starrer Is A HUGE Passion Project

When audiences went to see Thamma this Diwali, they saw the teaser for Shakti Shalini, which has booked a December 24, 2026 release. This was the same date originally announced for the mega-project Mahavatar, set to star Vicky Kaushal and be directed by Amar Kaushik.

In an exclusive interview, Amar Kaushik, who is also a producer and mentor for Thamma, confirmed that Mahavatar has been postponed. He also shared exciting details about why it is his most ambitious film ever.

Postponed For Massive Prep

When asked if Mahavatar has been pushed, Amar Kaushik confirmed it. He explained that the scale of the film requires a huge amount of preparation.

“Yes. The prep is going on for 6-7 months,” Amar revealed. “Mujhe toh soch ke hi darr lag raha hai. We have worked on the set design, weapon design, how every character would look, etc.” He also added, “The scripting is done. Yet, we need more time.”

The team is now aiming to start shooting by the middle of 2026. “Vicky will finish his other commitments and after that, he’ll also start his preparation. Hence, we hope to go on floors by mid-next year,” Amar said.

A Childhood Dream For Amar

Amar Kaushik explained that this film is not just another project for him; it’s a “huge passion project.” His connection to the subject goes back to his childhood in Arunachal Pradesh.

“When I was in school… there used to be a Parshuram Kund close by. I used to ask my mother who Parshuram was,” he shared. “I was only told that he was quite hot-tempered. Hence, I was quite fascinated by the character.”

He added, “When I read about it later in life, I was wowed and kept wondering, ‘Will I ever be able to make a film on this subject?’.” Amar feels that after his experience with VFX on other films, he finally has the confidence to “pull it off.”

Stree 2 Success Gave Confidence

Making a film on this scale requires massive backing. Amar agreed that the huge, all-time blockbuster success of his last film, Stree 2, helped give producer Dinesh Vijan the confidence to support this big responsibility.

“Yes, that always happens. If you haven’t proved yourself, why would anyone entrust you with such responsibility?” Amar said with a smile. “Agar aapke bade sapne hai, toh chhote sapne toh poore karo pehle.”

Even with so much success, Amar remains humble and honest about the challenge ahead. “In fact, I wouldn’t have taken up the film earlier in my career. Mujhe toh abhi bhi darr lag raha hai!”

About Mahavatar

Mahavatar is an upcoming epic mythological film starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, reportedly based on Parshuram. The film will be directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner. It is scheduled to begin shooting in mid-2026.
