Heeramandi actress Manisha Koirala recently opened up about a career decision she deeply regrets. Despite getting a chance to star alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Koirala confessed to turning down the opportunity due to her insecurities.

Manisha Koirala, whose last successful film was nearly a decade ago with Bhoot Returns, is now aiming for a strong comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi.

Manisha Koirala Wanted To Star Solo In Yash Chopra’s Film

The iconic character of Nisha in the film was initially considered by various leading actresses, including Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Raveena Tandon, Juhi Chawla, and Manisha Koirala, before ultimately being portrayed by Karisma Kapoor.

Unfortunately, Manisha Koirala, one of those initially approached, has since expressed regret over her decision to decline the role.

In her conversation with India Today, Manisha Koirala opened up about her career regrets, stating, “One of the regrets that I’ve in my career is I didn’t do Yash Chopra’s film. I was pitted against Madhuri ji [Dixit], and I was scared. I backed out of that project.” Reflecting on the allure of working with Yash Chopra, Koirala emphasised that every actor of her generation wanted to work with the filmmaker, drawn to his exquisite portrayal of women on-screen.

Recalling her conversation with Yash Chopra, Koirala revealed, “I went to Yash Ji’s office and told him, ‘Sir, it’s my dream to be your heroine, solo. You are pitting me against Madhuri ji’. Somehow [because of] better judgment of mine, I think I missed out.”

Filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi extended the offer of the lead role in Lajja to Manisha in 2000. Recognising the significance of the opportunity, the actress swiftly accepted the offer, determined not to repeat past mistakes. Reflecting on her decision,

Manisha expressed, “I think when you have a strong maker, and when you are confident in your skin, the security comes. I realised I didn’t want to make that mistake again because of my silly insecurities. I am so glad I did it. I am so proud of Lajja.”
