After a five-year gap, Yash Raj Films has officially confirmed the much-awaited third instalment of the Mardaani franchise. Rani Mukerji will once again step into the shoes of the fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3. This time, she promises an even darker, deadlier, and more brutal narrative than the previous two films.
YRF Announces Rani Mukerji’s Return With Mardaani 3
The announcement was made on December 13, 2024 & coincides with the anniversary of Mardaani 2’s release. Sharing the official confirmation post, YRF wrote, “The wait is over! #RaniMukerji is back as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in #Mardaani3. In cinemas 2026. #AbhirajMinawala | #AdityaChopra”

The third film in the series is set to begin filming in April 2025, with a planned release in 2026.
Rani Mukerji, who has received huge praise for her portrayal of the tough, no-nonsense police officer, expressed her excitement at returning to the role.
She shared, “There’s always a special feeling about wearing the police uniform.” Her portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy has earned her much love over the years and she is eager to continue representing fearless women in law enforcement. Mukerji also hinted that the new film would push the boundaries even further.
The actress said, “We’re looking for a script that will push the boundaries. Mardaani 3 will be dark, deadly, and brutal. So, I’m intrigued to find out the response of the people towards our film. I hope they shower this film with the same amount of love that they have always given.”
More Details About 3rd Instalment
The script for the upcoming film is written by Aayush Gupta, who gained recognition for his gripping storytelling in the popular series The Railway Men. Known for creating hard-hitting narratives, Gupta is expected to bring the same level of intensity to Mardaani 3.
The film will be directed by Abhiraj Minawala, who has previously worked as an assistant director on successful films like Band Baaja Baaraat, Gunday, Sultan, and Tiger 3. Minawala is currently working as an Associate Director for War 2, and his experience in high-octane action films is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the Mardaani series.
