The announcement of Sai Tamhankar joining the cast of Vijay Varma’s Matka King has stirred up immense curiosity and excitement among audiences and her fans. Directed by Manjule, this marks a significant first for Sai.
In a media interview, Sai expressed her excitement about collaborating with Nagraj Manjule and said, “Of course, Nagraj Manjule has been on my wish list, and I’ve been quite vocal about it in interviews and on social media. I am very excited and nervous to work with him.”
Sai Tamhankar On Her Role In Matka King
Recently, Sai also confirmed joining the cast as she shared a news snippet on her Instagram story.
Speaking about her role, she mentioned, “This is a web series for Amazon Prime, which Vijay (Varma) is a part of, and I will get an opportunity to work with a great actor like him. Now, I cannot reveal much about my part here, but all in all, it’s a sudden breeze of excitement and thrill in my life right now.”
Apart from Ground Zero, Agni, and Matka King, audiences can also look forward to Sai’s performance in Dabba Cartel, scheduled for release on Netflix later this year. This film marks Sai’s third collaboration with Excel Entertainment and boasts a stellar ensemble cast featuring Shabana Azmi, Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Nimisha Sajayan, Anjali Anand, Gajraj Rao, and Jisshu Sengupta, among others.
About Matka King
The upcoming web series on Amazon Prime Video, titled Matka King, stars Vijay Varma and is directed by Nagraj Manjule, acclaimed for his work on films like Sairat and Fandry. The series is set in 1960s Mumbai and follows the story of an ambitious cotton trader who introduces a new gambling game called “Matka,” which becomes immensely popular in the city.
Although fictional, the series is inspired by the real-life story of Ratan Khatri, known as the Matka King, who turned matka gambling into a widespread racket from the 1960s to the 1990s. Alongside Vijay Varma, the show features Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Gulshan Grover, and Siddharth Jadhav in important roles.
