The lawless world of Mirzapur is preparing to trade bullets for beats, at least for one striking stretch of its big-screen outing. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Mirzapur The Movie features a specially mounted dance number inspired by Sholay’s immortal Mehbooba Mehbooba, with Sonal Chauhan leading the performance and Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu stepping into the frame for a rare moment of spectacle.
The sequence marks an unexpected visual turn for a franchise built on betrayal, blood feuds and shifting power equations. For audiences used to seeing Kaleen Bhaiyya, Guddu Pandit and Munna Tripathi locked in intimidation and conflict, this detour into a stylised song set piece instantly stands out as one of the film’s most curious hooks.
Inside Mirzapur’s Desert Bar Dance Set Piece
The number was shot in Jodhpur last month across three night schedules, with the production creating a rural bar atmosphere in the middle of the desert. Sonal Chauhan performs at the heart of the sequence, while the staging gradually draws in the film’s key men, giving the song a lived-in, earthy energy rather than a glossy nightclub feel. The visual design uses tents, open landscapes and a rugged North Indian texture to evoke the spirit of Mehbooba Mehbooba without copying it. Vijay Ganguly choreographed the song, while the soundtrack for the film has been composed by Anand Bhaskar duo Khandal and Junaid Kumar.
That scale and staging also underline how Mirzapur is being recalibrated for theatres. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film is set for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026. The ensemble includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee and Ravi Kishan.
