Nearly a decade after Sridevi powered Mom (2017) into a much talked about thriller, the sequel has finally moved into active production. On March 2, 2026, producer Boney Kapoor confirmed that Mom 2 is currently being filmed in Noida, with Jisshu Sengupta and Karishma Tanna already shooting for the project.
The confirmation arrived from Uttar Pradesh’s new International Film City near Greater Noida along the Yamuna Expressway, where Mom 2 has become one of the early films to go on floors at the facility.
Boney Kapoor Confirms Mom 2 Is Rolling In Noida
Kapoor, speaking to the media at the location, put the key details on record, including the director and principal cast currently on set. “The shooting of the film Mom 2 is going on here. The director is Girish Kohli, who was the writer of Mom 1. We have technicians from different places; we have an actor from Bengal, Jisshu, and have a television actor, Karishma Tanna, who is also playing a very important part in the film,” he said.
With that, Kapoor confirmed two major casting names attached to the shoot: Sengupta and Tanna. He also confirmed that Girish Kohli, who co-wrote the original Mom, is directing the second instalment.
Where Khushi Kapoor Stands In The Sequel
While Kapoor’s latest interaction did not include a fresh, on-the-record line about Khushi Kapoor, he has previously stated that she will be a central lead in Mom 2. The sequel is being watched closely because Mom is widely remembered as Sridevi’s final film, and any continuation of the title naturally carries emotional resonance for audiences and for the Kapoor family.
Importantly, Mom 2 is designed as a fresh narrative that retains similar thematic terrain, rather than a direct continuation of Sridevi’s character story from the 2017 film.
What We Know About Mom 2 So Far
Mom 2 is being produced by Boney Kapoor along with Akshai Puri. Girish Kohli is directing, stepping up from his writing role on Mom. Filming is underway in Noida, and the confirmed actors currently shooting include Jisshu Sengupta and Karishma Tanna. Khushi Kapoor remains positioned as a key lead based on Kapoor’s earlier confirmation, with more casting details expected as production progresses.
The original Mom released in 2017 as a thriller led by Sridevi, built around a justice driven narrative. The sequel is expected to stay in that space with a new protagonist and a new storyline.
Karishma Tanna’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Karishma Tanna strengthened her OTT run with Hush Hush (2022) and then drew wide praise for her lead performance in Hansal Mehta’s Scoop (2023) on Netflix. With Mom 2 now rolling, she is stepping into a higher-profile feature film space, and Kapoor has confirmed she plays “a very important part” in the sequel.
