Ranbir Kapoor’s regal Lord Ram look from Ramayana grabs attention as Namit Malhotra hints the epic may expand beyond two parts

Ramayana may not end where audiences currently expect it to. Producer Namit Malhotra has revealed that the ambitious screen adaptation was originally conceived as a three-part saga before the team chose a two-film structure, and that the possibility of expanding it again has not been ruled out. The latest update comes as the makers continue filming and refining Ramayana: Part 1 ahead of its theatrical launch on November 5, 2026.

Namit Malhotra Opens Up On A Possible Third Film

Malhotra said the team is still actively shaping the project and could revisit the larger format once viewers respond to the first film. He said, “So we started out the film, we were going to make it in three (parts), then we decided to make it in two. We’re still in the middle of filming, so you know, I’m not going to give any spoilers for anything, but you know, who knows the way, once we get all the response and all the feedback, we may sit back on the table and the drawing board and see if there is anything else that we want to add or subtract, depending on how the world has received it.”

That comment adds a fresh layer to a project that has so far been positioned as a two-part theatrical event. Official material from Prime Focus and DNEG has consistently described Ramayana as a two-chapter epic, with Part 1 releasing in 2026 and Part 2 following in 2027.

Two Cuts Of Ramayana Part 1 Are Being Evaluated

Malhotra also confirmed that the makers currently have two versions of Ramayana: Part 1 with different runtimes, and they are assessing which one can best serve audiences worldwide. He said, “While we say that, we also have two different versions of the same film, but two different run times on one, on part one itself. So, depending on which way the next round of feedback goes, I’d love to not have to make two different versions. I’m sure Nitesh would also prefer that, that if you could just stick to one, one version for the world.”

He further added, “I mean, that we can also do. I think we have enough material to warrant a separate version within the same master version, we’ve got two different run times. So those are the kind of things that we’re trying to assess, depending on how audiences really consume this.”

Cast, Crew And Release Plans

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film is produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations. Its original score is by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, including IMAX formats.

The mythological epic is being mounted as a global event title, with the makers clearly balancing scale, runtime and international accessibility as they move toward release.
