Namit Malhotra’S Ramayana Unveils Pratham Sankalp In Delhi, Brings Cast Together Before Global Trailer Premiere

A major movie campaign rarely begins with this much symbolism, scale and star power in the same room. On July 18, New Delhi became the first stop in the public journey of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana, as the makers unveiled Pratham Sankalp ahead of the film’s worldwide trailer premiere on July 24. For a project already billed as one of the biggest Indian cinematic undertakings in recent years, the Delhi event was designed not just as a reveal, but as a statement of intent.

The evening framed Ramayana as a cultural event as much as a film launch. Produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the two-part epic is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. Official material from the makers also confirms Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, Arun Govil as Dasharath, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kunal Kapoor as Indra, Ajinkya Deo as Vishwamitra and Shobana in a key role. Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman are scoring the film.

A Cast Assembly Built For Scale

What gave the Delhi unveiling added weight was the gathering itself. The event marked the first public coming together of the principal cast, bringing together performers associated with different eras and styles of Indian cinema under one banner. Arun Govil’s presence carried a particular emotional resonance, considering his long-standing association with Lord Rama in the popular imagination, while Sunny Deol’s appearance as the actor playing Hanuman added another applause moment to the evening.

The makers also tied the launch to a broader outreach effort through the Ramayana Schools Programme, which, according to the official announcement, reached more than 500 schools. Selected student participants were invited to attend Pratham Sankalp, while preview activity was also planned across multiple Indian cities before the trailer’s worldwide debut. That detail gave the event a wider footprint beyond a conventional media unveiling.

What Namit Malhotra And Nitesh Tiwari Said

Speaking about the vision behind the film, Namit Malhotra said, “The Ramayana is not just one of our greatest epics; it is part of how we live, celebrate and pass on our values from one generation to the next. Every year, Dussehra and Diwali remind us that its message continues to guide millions through the triumph of light over darkness and righteousness over evil. Very few stories continue to shape everyday life thousands of years after they were first told. The Ramayana does.”

He further said, “Having spent much of my life working across the global film industry, I have always believed that India’s greatest stories deserve to be experienced on the world’s biggest stage. Today, we finally have the artists, the technology, the craftsmanship and the collective ambition to present this extraordinary cultural legacy to audiences everywhere with the authenticity, scale and cinematic excellence it deserves.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari also underlined the emotional and creative responsibility attached to the project. He said, “The Ramayana is one of the greatest stories ever told, not because of its scale, but because of the timeless values it represents. As a filmmaker, I never felt the responsibility to make it universal, it already is. My responsibility has been to approach it with complete honesty, authenticity and reverence.”

He added:

“Every creative decision we have made, from the writing and performances to the production design, music, visual effects and every frame on screen, has been guided by a single thought: to honour this extraordinary legacy with the dignity and respect it deserves, while presenting it through the finest cinematic craftsmanship possible. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to work alongside some of the world’s finest artists, technicians and storytellers in bringing this vision to life. I hope audiences everywhere experience not just the spectacle of Ramayana, but also the emotion, humanity, and timeless spirit that have allowed it to endure for thousands of years.”

Release Roadmap For Ramayana

The immediate next milestone is the global trailer launch on July 24, 2026. After that, Ramayana: Part One is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release during Diwali 2026. Presented by Prime Focus Studios with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the film adapts the ancient Indian epic and is being mounted as a large-format mythological action drama aimed at both domestic and international audiences.
