Srikanth Wins Best Hindi Feature Film At 72Nd National Film Awards, Bhushan Kumar Calls It India’S Highest Cinematic Honour

A stirring underdog story has now earned one of Indian cinema’s most coveted validations. Srikanth, the Rajkummar Rao-led biographical drama backed by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani, has won Best Hindi Feature Film at the 72nd National Film Awards, giving the 2024 release a powerful new place in the year’s cinematic conversation.

Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, Srikanth brought industrialist Srikanth Bolla’s journey to the screen with warmth, conviction and accessibility. Released in theatres on May 10, 2024, the film starred Rajkummar Rao in the title role alongside Jyothika, Alaya F and Sharad Kelkar. Produced by T-Series Films and Chalk N Cheese Films Production LLP, the film traced the rise of a visually impaired entrepreneur who pushed through systemic barriers to build an extraordinary life and career.

That dramatic core is precisely what appears to have carried the film all the way to National Award glory. In a year crowded with star-driven titles and prestige releases, Srikanth has emerged as a winner for storytelling rooted in resilience, emotional honesty and mainstream appeal. The honour also adds fresh weight to the film’s afterlife, ensuring that its impact will now be measured not just by its theatrical journey, but by the recognition it has received at the highest level.

Srikanth’S National Award Triumph Sparks An Emotional Response From Its Team

The award was announced on July 18, 2026, by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, with the honours recognising films certified during 2024. For the makers, the moment was clearly as personal as it was prestigious, and Bhushan Kumar’s response captured that sense of pride and gratitude.

Expressing his gratitude, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “Srikanth is a story that deserved to be told, and we are deeply honoured that it has been recognised with India’s highest cinematic honour. This award belongs to the entire team who believed in the vision of bringing Srikanth Bolla’s incredible journey to audiences with honesty and heart. We are grateful to the National Film Awards jury for this recognition.”

The emotional thread continued through the team’s reactions. Director Tushar Hiranandani said, “Making Srikanth has been one of the most fulfilling journeys of my career. This award is a tribute to Srikanth Bolla’s inspiring life and to every member of the cast and crew who poured their hearts into telling this story.”

Producer Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani added, “This recognition is incredibly special because Srikanth was made with immense love and conviction. It is a celebration of a story that inspires people to dream beyond limitations, and we’re thrilled that it has received this honour.”

For Srikanth, this win does more than add a trophy to its record. It sharpens the film’s standing within the 2024 slate as a biographical drama that connected with audiences and has now found enduring recognition from the country’s top film honours, giving its legacy a stronger and more lasting cultural imprint.
