Nana Patekar Death: Why Goa Police Have Registered An Unnatural Death Case After The Actor’s Passing

Nana Patekar‘s death in Goa in the early hours of Thursday, October 8, has left cinema fans mourning one of Indian screen acting’s most unmistakable voices. As tributes continue, the first major official step in the case has now emerged, with Goa Police registering an Unnatural Death case as part of the legal and medico legal process that follows such a death.

Goa Police Register Ud Case

The case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The move is a procedural one, allowing police to formally record the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, complete statutory formalities, and continue the inquiry now being handled under PSI Nitin Naik. A post mortem was conducted before Patekar’s mortal remains were taken to Pune’s Donje for his last rites later that night.

What Doctors Said About Nana Patekar’s Final Hours

Doctors at Manipal Hospital outlined the sequence of events from the moment Patekar’s condition worsened at home to the emergency efforts made after he was brought in. Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, said, “Nana Patekar was brought dead to the hospital around 4:30, and he was declared dead by 5:30. We tried our best to save him, but he was brought dead. Cardiac massage was given for 45 minutes to 1 hour, but he just couldn’t be saved.”

He further said, “As per what we recalled, at around 2:30, he sent a message to his friend that he was not feeling well. But as it was nighttime, his friend could not see the message. So he just called him. He went to his house at around 4 o’clock. By that time, he was sweating and all. They moved him, all those primary things. But he was slowly becoming unconscious. So they sent his caretaker to the hospital. He took our ambulance.”

Dr Salkar added, “They shifted him to our hospital at around 4:20 or 4:30 am. We also tried our best, but he was brought dead. Then we had to file a police case because there’s an MLC (medico-legal case). The body has now been taken to the Goa Medical College for post-mortem. His family was not there. His friends were there with him and a caretaker.”

With the official inquiry now underway, attention also returns to the body of work Nana Patekar leaves behind, a career that moved effortlessly between mainstream star vehicles and intense character driven dramas.

Nana Patekar’s Recent And Upcoming Work

In the last few years, Patekar remained selective but steadily active on screen. His recent releases included Tadka in 2022, The Vaccine War in 2023, the Marathi film Ole Aale in 2024, Vanvaas in 2024, and Housefull 5 in 2025. The stretch reflected a late career phase built on veteran presence rather than volume, with the actor continuing to draw attention even in ensemble projects.

He had also been attached to unreleased films including O’Romeo and Eetha, both associated with 2026. In that sense, his passing comes at a moment when he was still professionally active, still in circulation as a performer, and still part of the conversation around new work. That enduring relevance only deepens the sense of loss around an actor whose filmography spanned intensity, restraint, and unmistakable screen command.
