Actor Nani has shared his thoughts on Rishab Shetty’s recent comments about Bollywood. In an interview, Nani said he doesn’t agree with Shetty’s claim that Bollywood portrays India negatively. Still, he understands where Shetty is coming from and thinks his criticism might have been misinterpreted.
Here’s What Nani Said
Speaking to India Today, Nani explained, “I don’t think Bollywood shows India in a negative light. I think what Rishab means is much more rooted stories. Somewhere, I think there’s a lot of importance given to the technique and style of filmmaking rather than the core of the emotional story; this happens only in a few films. But there are some great magical films in Hindi.”
He continued, “So, I don’t think he meant it that way, and without seeing his entire conversation, I don’t want to comment more.”
A few days ago, Rishab Shetty shared his views with MetroSaga in Kannada. He criticised the negative portrayal of India in Bollywood films, suggesting that these films receive disproportionate attention at international festivals.
Shetty stated, “Indian films, particularly Bollywood, often portray India negatively. These so-called art films get showcased at international events and receive special attention. For me, my nation, my state, and my language are sources of pride. I believe in presenting them in a positive light to the world, and that’s exactly what I strive to do.” Shetty is currently busy filming the prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1.
Nani’s Work Front
Meanwhile, Nani’s latest film, Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, hit theatres on Friday. The movie features an ensemble cast including SJ Suryah, Abhirami, Aditi Balan, P Sai Kumar, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Murali Sharma, and Ajay Ghosh.
Directed by Vivek Athreya, the action drama is available in five languages—Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. It has managed to rake in nearly Rs 15 crore nett in India so far.
