Salman Khan’s rise from a newcomer to a Bollywood superstar is truly impressive. He started with a fee of just Rs 5,000, but now he commands much higher amounts.
Lawrence D’Souza, the director of the classic 1991 film Saajan, recently shared some interesting stories about Khan’s early career and his dramatic rise.
Salman Khan’s Signing Amount Soared From Rs 5000 To 5 Lakh
In a recent interview with Friday Talkies, D’Souza talked about his first encounter with Salman Khan. He admitted that during the trial screening of Maine Pyar Kiya, he wasn’t initially impressed but started to appreciate Salman as the film went on. Despite these early doubts, D’Souza and producer S Ramanathan decided to sign Khan.
At that time, Salman’s signing fee was only Rs 5,000. D’Souza mentioned that they paid Salman this amount, but the project didn’t work out. However, as Salman’s career soared, so did his fees.
D’Souza recounted a funny moment: After Salman’s success, Ramanathan tried to sign him again, offering Rs 5 lakh. But once more, Ramanathan didn’t follow through.
D’Souza Reveals Salman Khan Was Paid Rs 11 Lakh For Saajan
He added that Salman continued to deliver hits and laughed about how Ramanathan would pay Salman and then do nothing, and Salman joked about it, wondering why Ramanathan would always pay and then stay quiet.
Eventually, D’Souza did work with Salman on Saajan. For this film, Salman and co-star Madhuri Dixit were paid Rs 11 lakh each, while Sanjay Dutt earned Rs 12 lakh.
Salman Khan is currently busy with his new film Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The action movie is set for a grand release on Eid 2025.
