The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has declared National Cinema Day 2023 a huge success, as more than 6 million movie enthusiasts thronged the theatres across the country on October 13 to enjoy their favourite films at just Rs 99.
The MAI had announced the special offer to celebrate the love for cinema and to revive the industry that was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The offer was valid for all national and international movies, including the latest blockbusters like Jawan, Gadar 2, Mission Raniganj, Thank You For Coming etc.
MAI issues an official statement on response to National Cinema Day 2023
The MAI said in an official statement that the response from the public was overwhelming and unprecedented, as most of the shows were sold out and the houseful boards returned to the ticket counters. This day was second highest day of 2023 in terms of its attendance.
The MAI also thanked the movie audience in making National Cinema Day a grand success.

However the attendance for last year was 6.5 million, approximately 0.5 million or 5 lacs higher than this year. This could be a result of
National Cinema Day
National Cinema Day was first celebrated in India on September 23, 2022, by the MAI to commemorate the reopening of cinema halls after the COVID-19 pandemic. The tickets were priced at Rs 75 and the collections touched around Rs 48 crore across films of various languages. This year, the MAI decided to extend the offer to international movies as well and to slash the prices further to Rs 99. The move paid off as the collections are estimated to have crossed Rs 60 crore on October 13, making it the highest grossing day of the year at the box office.
