Even after 27 years, Ishq (1997) remains a favourite among fans. Recently, the film’s lead stars, Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan, reunited, sparking rumours about a possible sequel. Director Indra Kumar, who directed the original, is excited about the idea of Ishq 2, but he says the script would need to live up to the first one.
The reunion took place at a ceremony for Milap Zaveri’s Tera Yaar Hoon Main in Mumbai. The event quickly caught the attention of fans, as Devgn and Khan shared memories from filming Ishq. The two actors laughed and talked about their time together, even hinting at the possibility of working on a new project.
The Singham actor recalled the fun moments they had on set & suggested they might reunite for something new. Aamir, always open to a good idea, agreed with excitement. This sparked speculation that a sequel might be in the works.
Indra Kumar REACTS To Possibilities Of Aamir Khan-Ajay Devgn’s Ishq Sequel
When asked about the sequel, Indra Kumar told ETimes, “Neki aur puch puch? The only thing is that making a sequel that matches up to the original is a big task. Aisi script bhi toh likhni chahiye na.”
He stressed the challenge of creating a story that would match the magic of the first film. Kumar added, “However, if Ajay and Aamir ask me to start work on it then why not? If they tell me to write the script, I’ll start from tomorrow itself. Once they confirm and discuss the signing amount, then we’ll be good to go.” So, if the two stars give the go-ahead, Kumar is ready to begin work.
Apart from Ishq 2, Kumar is also open to revisiting other films he’s directed. He mentioned Beta (1992), a classic with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, as another potential sequel. The original film is loved by fans, and Kumar believes a follow-up could bring the same magic.
Aamir-Ajay Recall Fun Moment From The 1997 Hit
The reunion between Aamir and Ajay only added to the excitement. Aamir shared a funny behind-the-scenes story from Ishq. He recalled an encounter with a chimpanzee during a special sequence.
The chimp attacked Aamir, but Ajay stepped in to save him. Ajay joked that Aamir had provoked the chimp by spraying water on it first and that’s how it happened.
