In an unexpected twist, the release of the much-awaited mythological epic drama Adipurush directed by Om Raut faced a setback in Nepal when the Nepal Censor Board objected to a dialogue stating that Goddess Sita was India’s daughter. The board argued that Sita was born in Nepal. However, in a recent development, the film has been granted permission to be screened in Nepal after the filmmakers of Adipurush made the decision to remove the controversial dialogue. The worldwide release of the film is scheduled for tomorrow, June 16.
A journalist initially broke the news on Twitter, stating that the Nepal government raised objections to a scene in Adipurush where it is claimed that Goddess Sita was India’s daughter, despite her actual birthplace being Nepal. As a result, the Nepal Censor Board has chosen not to release the film in the country until the filmmakers rectify this factual error.
Shortly after, the journalist shared a follow-up tweet with an update, revealing that Adipurush will indeed be released in Nepal. The Nepal censor board granted approval to the film once the contentious dialogue stating ‘Sita is India’s daughter’ was eliminated from the movie. However, it is anticipated that the film might still encounter some criticism and opposition in Kathmandu upon its release tomorrow.
Om Raut helms the directorial duties for Adipurush, a highly-anticipated film that features a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Devdatta Nage, and Sunny Singh in significant roles. The movie serves as a modern retelling of the revered ancient Indian epic, the Ramayana.
