Netflix’s First Original Series From Pakistan To Reunite Fawad Khan And Mahira Khan

Netflix has announced its first Pakistani original series, Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, which will feature a galaxy of stars popular across Pakistan, South Asia and beyond. The series is an official adaptation of Farhat Ishtiaq’s bestselling 2013 Urdu-language novel of the same name, which revolves around the lives and loves of two young people who meet in Italy.

The show is being shot in Italy, the U.K. and Pakistan. A streaming date has not been revealed yet.

Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan reunite on screen

The lead cast of the series includes Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who have previously starred together in The Legend of Maula Jatt, the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time. Fawad Khan, who was recently seen playing a Pakistani character in Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel, will play Sikandar, a Harvard law student who experiences a life-changing incident that makes him keep others at bay. Mahira Khan, who made her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan in Raees, will play Liza, a talented artist who is bursting with life but has had a troubled past.

Interestingly, the pairing of Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan has previously starred in the popular Pakistani television show Humsafar, also based on Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel. 

Sanam Saeed, Ahad Raza Mir and more join Fawad Khan And Mahira Khan

Joining Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan in lead roles are Sanam Saeed and Ahad Raza Mir. Sanam Saeed, who was one of the leads in Zindagi series Barzakh alongside Fawad Khan, will play Zara, Sikandar’s sister who is also a lawyer. Ahad Raza Mir, who featured in Netflix series Resident Evil and made a splash in Season 2 of the BBC’s World on Fire, will play Asfandyar, Liza’s cousin who is also an artis.

The series will also feature Hamza Ali Abbasi, who played the main antagonist in The Legend of Maula Jatt; Bilal Ashraf (Superstar), Maya Ali (Parey Hut Love), Iqra Aziz (Raqeeb Se), Hania Aamir (Parde Mein Rehne Do), Khushaal Khan (Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri), Nadia Jamil (Jo Bichar Gaye), Omair Rana (Pinjra) and Samina Ahmed (Ms. Marvel).

Momina Duraid to showrun Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo

The series is being produced by Dubai-based Momina Duraid Films FZ – LLC, with Momina Duraid serving as showrunner. Momina Duraid has produced several popular Pakistani films and TV shows, such as Bin Roye, Chand Tara and Fairytale. The show is being shot in Italy, the U.K. and Pakistan. A streaming date has not been revealed yet.

A Milestone for Pakistani content on Netflix

Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo is the first Pakistani original series to be commissioned by Netflix. The streaming giant has previously acquired several Pakistani films and TV shows for its platform, such as Cake, Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Humsafar. The series is expected to showcase the rich culture and talent of Pakistan to a global audience.

Farhat Ishtiaq, the author of the novel on which the series is based, has expressed her excitement about the project. She has previously adapted several of her novels for Pakistani television, such as Humsafar, Mere Humdum Mere Dost, Matae Jaan Hai Tu, Diyar-e-Dil, Bin Roye and Yaqeen Ka Safar.
