Residents of Madhuban in Vasai East, near Mumbai, were pleasantly surprised to find many Rs. 2000 notes strewn across the roadway on Sunday. A handful of them dashed to collect as many money notes as they could, only to discover that the notes were counterfeit. Nonetheless, the residents’ delight quickly turned to rage when it was revealed that the notes were strewn as part of the set for the online series Sunny, starring Shahid Kapoor. People were enraged by the fact that these money notes included a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi. As a result, they have accused the filmmakers of insulting the Nation’s Father.

According to a story in a tabloid, former Shiv Sena corporator Kiran Chendvankar said the notes were used for an accident sequence in the web series directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, who also helmed The Family Man. She said that these notes come off after a vehicle is involved in an accident, as per the series’ storyline. As a result, these Rs. 2000 notes are strewn across the street.

Locals, on the other hand, have questioned why the production team did not collect the money notes after the shot. Instead, they claim that the film’s unit simply left after the sequence was shot. As a result, residents were obliged to tread over them, disrespecting Mahatma Gandhi.

Kiran Chendvankar was photographed posing with some of the ripped Rs. 2000 notes that were used in the session. She said that the notes were duplicates, and that they were issued by the Children Bank of India. However, the notes feature a picture of Mahatma Gandhi, which has sparked outrage. The notes were still lying on the road on Monday, according to the tabloid, and had not been cleared. Some residents have filed a police complaint against the Shahid Kapoor-producers.

The matter has already been reported to the authorities. Sanjay Kumar Patil, the Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police, informed the tabloid that the filmmakers had obtained all necessary permits for the shoot. He further stated that an investigation into the alleged disrespect shown to Mahatma Gandhi had begun.

According to the website, Sunny’s producers have a specific staff to verify that no phoney notes are left behind at the spot. They also stated that they hold Mahatma Gandhi in the highest regard and have no intention of offending him.
