Directed by Sandeep Modi, the series stars Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, Saswata Chatterjee. It streams on Disney plus hotstar and has four episodes, nearly 60 Minutes each.
Plot
Aditya Roy Kapur, who plays Shaan Sengupta, is a night manager in an opulent hotel, comes up in the perilous intrigue, involving an Indian arms dealer. Anil Kapoor acts as Shailendra ‘Shelley’ Rungta and the Indian intelligence elite, with apparently tainted officers, showing resistance to arrest him. The only one doing to stir that hornet’s nest is Lipika Saikia, who is Tillotama Shome’s character. Saswata Chatterjee acts a gay sidekick character where his name is Brij & nickname is BJ. It has sequences from 2011 Cairo and Arab Spring’s place to 2017 Dhaka, where protesters demonstrate on streets in a reply to Myanmar’s persecution of its Rohingya minority and the army is directed to prevent the increasing unrest.
Analysis
Anil Kapoor is brilliant while delivering his breathtaking performance; Aditya is solid. Other characters of Saswata Chatterjee and Tillotama Shome are good. What’s interesting is that Raavan and Lanka’s references provide a desi look to audiences as they watch. The silent conversation between the first meet of the duo adds to the intriguing nature of knowing it more.
Verdict
It is fine when it begins with a fight scene. However, the screenplay has to be relooked in various parts, especially in the middle. It’s an adaptation of le Carré from a 1993 published book. The espionage thriller is a cliche but makes one leave in suspense to make you watch another episode.
