Get ready for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, because it’s poised to be nothing less than a cinematic marvel. The film was already stamped with fan-fantasy markings when Ranbir Kapoor was cast in the role of Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash playing the mythological villain Ravana. But now, another exciting drool-worthy revelation has caught the buzz to another level: Kunal Kapoor is going to play Lord Indra, and yes, reportedly a lavish clash between him and Yash’s Ravana has already been planned!

A battle between Ravana and Indra is one of two headlining fights planned for the film trailer. According to insiders, the film will not only retell the main Ramayana story; it will reinterpret it with the aesthetic spectacle of international fantasy sagas. The fans are not going to be disappointed with this planned trilogy.
For the ones acquainted with the epic, Ravana defeating Indralok alongside his war with the king of the gods is the apex of his reign and, simultaneously, the start of his doom. Given Yash’s dark intensity and Kunal Kapoor’s strong-suited charm, this heavenly conflict can easily rank as one of the best, if not the most famous, fighting scenes in modern Indian films.
Many were caught off guard when it was revealed that Kunal Kapoor had been cast as Lord Indra, and while it is bound to stir some surprise, this casting decision is at once clever. Period dramas are no stranger to Kapoor, who has played royals before (and who can forget his commanding performance in Rang De Basanti?), and with this he becomes part of an explosive cast that features Sunny Deol portraying Hanuman and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.
Every Indra’s palace and Ravana’s Lanka will be rendered in lavish detail by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus, so every moment from Indian mythology will be brought to life in stunning detail.

With sensitive blockbuster narratives like Dangal, Nitesh Tiwari is constructing a Ramayana Cinematic Universe (RCU) in the works. The first entry will establish the universe’s Ayodhya, Lanka, and Swargalok, while subsequent instalments will explore the war, betrayal, and redemption arc in further detail.
In an effort to compete with international franchises like Lord of the Rings and Dune, the filmmakers are showing no signs of slowing – production value is through the roof, and the first film is slated for late 2025 in theatres. With VFX-driven Indian epic sagas blossoming, Ramayana may be our answer.
Wait until you watch Ranbir Kapoor as Maryada Purushottam Ram in a realm where gods battle and fates are changed if you thought you had seen his range in Animal.
