John Abraham is set to return to the big screen with the political thriller The Diplomat featuring Sadia Khateeb. While promoting the film, he shared his views on films being called ‘propaganda’ and how cinema has evolved.
John Abraham Says He Is Not Here To ‘Judge’
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, John reflected on the changing cultural landscape. “I don’t think we are as secular as we used to be, even as individuals in cinema,” he said. He pointed out that the industry is going through a sensitive phase.
When asked about certain films being labelled as propaganda, John chose to stay neutral. He acknowledged the impact of films and how audiences perceive them.
Referring to The Kashmir Files, he said, “Someone says a particular film like The Kashmir Files or one of those films is a propaganda film. As a normal consumer of cinema, it was effective. The story hit you.”
Rather than making judgments, John left it to the viewers. He explained, “I am not here to judge whether that was a propaganda film or not; I am a consumer who is consuming cinema.” For him, a film’s real success lies in how deeply it connects with audiences.
Actor Praises Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava
In the same interview, the Pathaan star praised Chhaava for its success in bringing audiences back to cinemas. He shared that he personally congratulated Vicky Kaushal and producer Dinesh Vijan. He believes such films deserve appreciation.
John also highlighted the efforts of filmmakers and actors who aim to create meaningful cinema. Expressing his hopes for The Diplomat, he said, “I hope The Diplomat emerges as a dark horse and contributes to a positive shift in the industry.”
With a gripping narrative and a strong cast, The Diplomat is set to release on 14 March, just in time for Holi.
