Operation Sindoor to Get the Big Screen Treatment as Bhushan Kumar Teams Up With Vivek Agnihotri

When two heavyweight brands of very different kinds of Indian cinema align, the intent is usually clear: go big, go loud, and make it event viewing. That is exactly the energy around a newly confirmed collaboration between producer Bhushan Kumar and filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, a pairing that signals a high-profile, politically charged feature is now officially in motion.

With Kumar’s T-Series machinery and Agnihotri’s track record for research-driven, contemporary history narratives, the project is being positioned as a major film inspired by Operation Sindoor, the codename linked to India’s targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in May 2025.

The Latest Update

Bhushan Kumar and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri are joining hands for a film based on Operation Sindoor. The project will be produced under the banners of T-Series and I Am Buddha Productions, with Agnihotri directing.

A source quoted in the original report stated: “Bhushan Kumar and Vivek Agnihotri have come together for their next film on Operation Sindoor. It will be produced under T-Series, and I am Buddha Production, and the film will be directed by Vivek Agnihotri.”

While the title, cast, and timeline are being kept under wraps for now, the key creative pieces are locked: the studio backing, the director, and the subject, which is expected to anchor the film in a tight, operations-led narrative rather than fictionalised patriotism.

Why Operation Sindoor Is A Loaded Cinematic Subject

Operation Sindoor refers to Indian armed forces’ precision strikes carried out in the early hours of May 7, 2025, targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, as stated by the Government of India. In its official communication, India described the action as “focused, measured and non-escalatory,” adding that “no Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

That combination of specificity and national context makes it an especially potent canvas for a filmmaker like Agnihotri, whose work often frames recent history through a confrontational, investigative lens.

Vivek Agnihotri’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Agnihotri’s most recent directorial release was The Bengal Files, which hit theatres on September 5, 2025, starring Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumarr. The film later premiered on ZEE5 on November 21, 2025. Before that, he directed The Vaccine War (2023) and The Kashmir Files (2022), the latter becoming his biggest mainstream breakthrough.

On the upcoming slate, the newly announced Operation Sindoor film now becomes Agnihotri’s next confirmed directorial, and it also marks a notable scale-up in terms of studio partnership, with T-Series backing expected to bring wider theatrical reach and larger production heft than his recent releases.
