Oscars 2023: SS Rajamouli Directed ‘RRR’s Naatu Naatu & Pan Nalin’s ‘The Last Film Show’ Shortlisted For The 95th Academy Awards

While RRR was shortlisted for its energetic song ‘Naatu Naatu’, The Last Film Show made its way for the International Feature Film category.

On 22 December 2022, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the list of shortlisted films for the 95th Academy Awards in which ‘RRR’ and ‘The Last Film Show’ made it to the top categories. While RRR was shortlisted for its energetic song ‘Naatu Naatu’, The Last Film Show made its way for the International Feature Film category. The selection of these Indian movies for the 2023 Oscars is a proud moment for the country.

Besides ‘Naatu Naatu’, 15 more songs have been shortlisted from among 81 tunes which include ‘Nothing Is Lost’ from ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’, ‘Lift Me Up’ from ‘Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever’, ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and others.

The Academy has made the announcement of its shortlists in 10 categories which include documentary and international features, documentary short subject, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, animated short, live-action short, sound and visual effects.

Besides, Shaunak Sen’s film ‘All That Breathes’ is shortlisted for the ‘Documentary Feature Film’ category, the list has 15 international feature films from 92 countries and regions including Close (Belgium), Decision to Leave (South Korea), All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Bardo (Mexico) and Joyland (Pakistan). By this, Pakistan has its first ever shortlisted film in the category.

Meanwhile, RRR has also been nominated in other two categories. The film is nominated in the Best Picture – Non-English Language category and also in the Best Original Song, Motion Picture category. Along with these nominations, it has bagged five nominations in the Critics Choice Awards in various categories, which include, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song.

The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for which Nominations voting will start from January 12-17, and nominations will be announced on January 24.
