After gaining significant praise at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Santosh is set to release in Indian theatres in January 2025. Directed by Sandhya Suri, the Hindi-language film has been chosen as the UK’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

Sandhya Suri’s Santosh To Release In India Next Month
Santosh will be released in theatres on January 10, 2025, by PVR INOX Pictures. This has created excitement among movie lovers who can’t wait to see this Oscar contender on the big screen.
Director Sandhya Suri has earned universal acclaim for creating a compelling narrative that highlights important social issues. Film’s lead Shahana Goswami expressed her joy about the film’s recognition. About This Oscar-Nominated Film
According to the synopsis, the story follows Santosh, a young widow who takes up her late husband’s job as a police officer in rural India. Under the mentorship of a senior female inspector, Sharma, Santosh investigates the murder of a low-caste girl. As she delves deeper into the crime, she confronts corruption and societal flaws and faces her own inner struggles.
Shahana Goswami stars as Santosh, bringing depth and authenticity to the role. Her performance has been praised for showing the emotional challenges faced by a woman navigating a corrupt system. Sunita Rajwar plays Inspector Sharma, a role that showcases strength and determination. Rajwar’s portrayal adds another layer to the film’s story.
Meanwhile, the Oscars 2025 event will take place in March next year. Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies was also in the race but couldn’t make it to the list.
