What looked like a modest family release has ended as a clear box office misfire. Pankaj Tripathi’s Ohh My Dog has finished its theatrical run below Rs 4 crore, a surprisingly low end result for a film fronted by one of Hindi cinema’s most trusted performers. After a limited opening-day response, a slight weekend lift could not rescue the film, and Monday’s sharp fall sealed its fate almost instantly.
The four-day run tells the story in full. Ohh My Dog opened with Rs 0.85 crore to Rs 0.90 crore on Friday, rose to Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.10 crore on Saturday, collected Rs 1.25 crore on Sunday and then fell to Rs 0.25 crore net on Monday. The film closed its run in the Rs 3.35 crore to Rs 3.50 crore range, keeping it under the Rs 4 crore mark and placing it firmly among the softer theatrical performers of the year.
Monday Crash Seals Ohh My Dog’s Fate After Release Delay
The steep Monday drop also underlined how little room the film had to build beyond its opening weekend. That challenge had started even before release. Ohh My Dog was originally slated to arrive in cinemas on July 31, 2026, but the makers shifted it to August 7 because of screen competition and a crowded release window. The move suggested a search for breathing space, but even the new date did not translate into sustained footfalls.
Writer-director Amit Rai had laid out that concern while explaining the postponement. He said, “It has all the potential, but it just won’t have the space.” He also added, “By then, there will be a little space, and we might be able to grow there. That is the very valid reason behind shifting the release.”
A Family Film That Banked On Heart Over Scale
The film’s pitch was always intimate rather than event-sized, leaning on emotion, children and canine charm instead of a conventional commercial hook. Directed by Amit Rai, Ohh My Dog is a 2026 Hindi family film featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Pavan Malhotra, Rajesh Kumar and debutant Maahi Rai. Its story follows a child-centric emotional drama set against a canine backdrop, with the film designed as a family entertainer.
Tripathi himself had framed the film in exactly those terms at the trailer launch. “That’s why I have become a part of this film. The real stars of this film are the people telling the story, especially Amit Rai (writer-director), the child actor in the film and, of course, the canines, who are the true stars. I have simply supported the film, and I am only in a few scenes. This is not my film, but I wanted to be here today.” He further said, “This film has not been made to earn Rs 200 crore or become a blockbuster. It should recover its investment and reach people’s hearts. That will be its real collection.”

That gap between intention and outcome gives the box office result a sharper industry context. For Tripathi, the film’s underwhelming finish stands out because his presence usually lends credibility even to unconventional theatrical choices. In that wider career arc, Ohh My Dog now looks less like a star-led vehicle and more like a well-meaning detour that simply did not convert into box office pull.
