With Bhool Chuk Maaf unveiling the teaser for Param Sundari to great applause and the teaser now out in the digital space, fans were excited leading up to the July 25 release of the Sidharth Malhotra-Janhvi Kapoor rom-com. However, in a curveball, Maddock Films is reportedly considering pushing back the release date – and the possibility of Son of Sardaar 2 coming out on the same date as the only Hindi film release.
Dinesh Vijan and an Overcrowded July
Dinesh Vijan is not one to make bad strategic decisions. He is considering assessing clearing an overcrowded release on this release date due to a number of big-ticket releases in July leading to them having second thoughts. A source close to the project stated:
“Param Sundari is set to release July 25. Dinesh Vijan met with his team and are deciding if they are going to remain on that date or come later. There are just too many releases next month and that is part of the reason they are having second thoughts.”
The team is looking at August 29 as a possible release date — a date currently open with no strong competition.
With Maddock’s history of sudden and unpredictable release decisions (Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Bhool Chuk Maaf), no one can be certain until the official release notification comes through.
Solo Advantage For Son Of Sardaar 2?
If Param Sundari does get delayed, Son Of Sardaar 2 — the sequel to Ajay Devgn’s Diwali blockbuster from 2012 — would have a clean release window on July 25. The film stars Ajay Devgn with Mrunal Thakur, Sanjay Mishra, Kubbra Sait, and the deceased Mukul Dev. With a solo release, this film could bank on mass appeal and nostalgia factor, especially in the Tier 2 & Tier 3 markets where the first film had a very strong hold.
July 2025: Bollywood’s Most Crowded Month?
July 2025 appears to be setting up to be a top 5 month of every crowded month for Indian cinema:
- July 4: Metro …In Dino, Kingdom, Jurassic World: Rebirth
- July 11: Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, Maalik, and Superman
- July 18: YRF’s Saiyaara, Smurfs, and I Know What You Did Last Summer
- July 25: Son of Sardaar 2, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and maybe Param Sundari?
A month crammed with this much material is hardly leaving mid-tier Bollywood films any breathing room. This is especially true of those that don’t have the marketing weight of the Hollywood tentpoles or the franchise to bolster expectations.
Maddock’s Playbook: Adapt And Surprise
Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films recently demonstrated a knack for surprise when it removed Bhool Chuk Maaf from theatres (which was a recent case and not even their strangest move). Whether Param Sundari stays put or shifts locations will depend on how the box office landscape sits for films in the first half of July.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
The box office schedule is cluttered, and there will be plenty of tactical dance-outs! While Param Sundari has great digital traction and the hype is building, the strategy could better serve Param Sundari with a clearer period, which could now be late August. If it does shift, Son of Sardaar 2 will get the clear runway it needs to reach for the stars.
So as it sits, we could see Ajay Devgn riding solo on July 25. Then again, with Dinesh Vijan, it is always open to change.
