Sivakarthikeyan starrer Parasakthi has managed to accumulate Rs 47 crore at the worldwide box office in its first three days of theatrical release. The period drama directed by Sudha Kongara opened on Saturday, January 10, and has shown a mixed performance trajectory across the opening weekend. The domestic markets contributed Rs 29.25 crore while international territories added approximately USD 2 million to the total.
The film opened strongly on Saturday with Rs 14.75 crore gross collections, followed by a Sunday tally of Rs 11.25 crore. However, Monday witnessed a concerning drop to just Rs 3.25 crore, representing a decline of over 75 percent from the opening day numbers. Trade analysts attribute this steep fall to a combination of pre festival slowdown and the film’s mixed word of mouth among audiences.
Lucky Break From Jana Nayagan Postponement
Parasakthi received an unexpected advantage when Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated final cinematic outing Jana Nayagan was postponed from its original January 9 release date. This development allowed the Sivakarthikeyan film to capitalize on the lucrative Pongal festival period without major competition. The Sudha Kongara directorial now has a clear runway to leverage the upcoming holiday season, which officially begins from Tuesday.
Tamil Nadu Leads Territorial Performance
The regional breakdown reveals that Tamil Nadu has been the primary revenue driver for the film, contributing Rs 24.50 crore to the domestic total. Karnataka added Rs 3.25 crore while Kerala and the rest of India accounted for Rs 0.90 crore and Rs 0.60 crore respectively. The Tamil speaking territories have clearly embraced this collaboration between the popular star and acclaimed filmmaker.
Pongal Holidays Could Turn Fortunes Around
Industry experts are closely monitoring whether the film can leverage the Pongal festive period to recover momentum. The sharp Monday drop has raised questions about audience reception, but the lack of major competition during the holiday window provides breathing space. If the decline was primarily due to pre festival hesitation rather than content issues, collections should see an upward trend starting Tuesday.
The coming days will be crucial in determining whether Parasakthi can sustain its theatrical run and emerge as a profitable venture. The film needs to show strong growth during the Pongal holidays to justify its production investment and establish itself as a success story.
