The highly anticipated Hera Pheri 3 was thrown into a real-life comedy of legal issues.
In a shocking development, actor Paresh Rawal has formally exited the third part of the cult comedy franchise and has returned the ₹11 lakh signing amount, including 15% yearly interest, to the production house — Cape of Good Films headed by Akshay Kumar.
Paresh Rawal Exits, Returns Advance With Interest
A source close to the development revealed that Paresh Rawal, who had been locked in to reprise his famous character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, was paid ₹11 lakhs as a signing amount, and his full fee was ₹15 crores.
“This was clear in the term sheet that the balance ₹14.89 crores will be paid one month after the release of the film. Paresh did not agree with this delayed payment clause at all,” added the source.
With Hera Pheri 3 likely to start shooting only next year and a tentative release schedule of late 2026 or even 2027, the actor was reportedly unwilling to wait for a full two years for the residual amount.
Legal Troubles: ₹25 Crore filed by Cape Of Good Films
What was once just a contractual dispute has grown into a ₹25 crore lawsuit by Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films against Paresh Rawal for defamation and breach of contract. While the actor’s legal team has remained quiet, Rawal appears to have opted for a dignified way out and returned the ₹11 lakh signing amount plus interest and additional compensation for the trouble caused.
This could either calm the storm or suggest a much larger legal confrontation in the months ahead.
What Happens To Hera Pheri 3 Now?
According to the traders, only a promo teaser with Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal has been shot in the middle of shooting another film, Bhooth Bangla. The same crew was used to shoot the Hera Pheri 3 announcement video. Now with Paresh Rawal getting out, the beloved character Baburao is in limbo.
Will the makers recast the iconic character, or will the script need to undergo a revamp? All eyes are on the makers, and with the audience’s expectation still high for the third part of a franchise that started way back in 2000 and followed it up with the cult sequel Phir Hera Pheri in 2006.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict
This is not the drama that Hera Pheri fans signed up for: a real-life drama of key cast members falling out and lawsuits in the air. Paresh Rawal’s gracious refund with interest is not the commentary of present-day cinema, but it does not fill the massive hole in the franchise, and without a creative overhaul or a convincing interpretation of Baburao, Hera Pheri 3 looks like it will be a lot more drama than fun.
