Taapsee Pannu recently revealed she was never an ideal choice for Haseen Dillruba franchise. Read to know how she got this role.

Taapsee Pannu’s role as Rani Saxena in Haseen Dillruba almost went to another actress, as the film’s backstory unfolds. Pannu’s portrayal of a discontented wife whose love story turns dark was a significant departure from her previous roles. She recently shared how she came to be cast in the 2021 Netflix thriller, which was initially intended for someone else.

Taapsee Pannu REVEALS Some OTher Actress Was Approached For The Role

During her recent chat with Indian Express, Taapsee Pannu revealed that screenwriter Kanika Dhillon had originally pitched the film to another actress.

Pannu recalled, “I had heard from Kanika that she had a story of this sort.” She expressed her interest but learned that Dhillon had already narrated the script to a different actor. While she didn’t name any actress, it was Kriti Sanon according to reports.

Taapsee Pannu was later invited back by Dhillon. “A few months later, Kanika called me again and asked me to come for a script narration without asking me any more questions,” Pannu said. “When she ended the narration, I just laughed. I told her, ‘Ye meri kismat mein thi,’ meaning I was meant to do this film. It was an instant yes from my side.”

Taapsee Reveals Why She Got Interested In The Character

The role was an unusual choice for Pannu, known for her work in intense dramas and comedies. She admitted that taking on a pulpy romantic thriller like Haseen Dillruba was unconventional for her. “I am not the ideal cast for it, apart from the grey part of it,” Pannu said. She embraced the challenge, viewing it as an opportunity to explore new aspects of her acting.

The film’s success sparked the creation of a sequel, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, set to release on August 9. Pannu credited the buzz surrounding the original film for paving the way for the sequel. “The release was followed by all sorts of reactions,” she noted.

“It was the first time I realised how much noise a film can make, in a good or bad way. All that noise gave us fodder to get into part two.”

Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba will see Pannu reunite with Vikrant Massey and introduces Sunny Kaushal to the cast. Directed by Jayprad Desai, the sequel aims to build on the original’s success and deliver a fresh experience to audiences.
